Dried Florals to Embroidery to Engagement Photos?!
How this shop owner spent zero dollars on marketing and popped on social media...and this other store became the spot for engagement photos
Hope you had a productive Cyber Monday! I’m sure your inbox is exploding with “Last Minute Cyber Monday Sale” types of emails, and this email might be the only one in your inbox that isn’t trying to sell you something…because we sent that email out on Saturday! This past Saturday was Small Business Saturday, and it’s a very important day for small retailers. If you want to learn more about Small Business Saturday and why you should support local stores, you can read about it here.
The Latest From Shoper Chronicles
Today we’re diving into the incredible story of how Abby Price went from selling dried floral arrangements and vintage goods out of her apartment to opening Abbode, a beautiful shop on Elizabeth Street that’s been blowing up across social media for its custom embroidery services. And she’s done all of this without any formal marketing budget. The success of Abbode has been entirely organic through social media and word of mouth! Read more about Abby and her journey as a storeowner here.
PS - if you’re based in NYC, Abbode is hosting some holiday events! Make sure to check these 2 events out.
December 1st - Embroidery Class with Salon 21
December 2nd - Vintage Pop-Up with Sloppy Seconds
Three Things These Shop Owners Are Loving
In case you missed it last week, we interviewed Koral and Michela of Monsoon Market. But if you’re not up for reading another interview (yes, we’re assuming you’re reading Abby’s)... we caught up with Koral and Michela to find out what 3 things they’re obsessing over right now:
🥥 Courtside's Comeback: The return of our favorite coconut water, Courtside, to the market fridges after a long-awaited restock!
📷 Our recent "WOMEN AT WORK" collaboration with Sidewalk Chawk in honor of Monsoon's 2nd birthday. We dressed Misch up in a hot pink suit, strapped on our DIY traffic cone bra and shot images of her drinking wine in the empty lot across the street on a Hasselblad 500cm camera (quite the attraction for passersby on 7th St in Central Phoenix).
The finished design was screen printed by Cole on assorted vintage blanks at Therespace, a local membership-based print studio in Phoenix. This project was definitely one of our favorite concepts and collaborations yet. Made in limited quantities, these are only available IRL at Monsoon Market!
❤️ Sumi & Jacob's recent engagement photoshoot, where they brought their own bodega cats to the market and used natural wine as a prop. Can our customers get any cooler?
